Student Dismissal Policy

The College expects students to meet and adhere to a code of conduct while completing their program of study, both on campus and during work experience.

Code of Conduct – Expectations for Students:
  • Attend the College in accordance with the Attendance Policy and course policies.
  • Treat all students and staff with respect.
  • Treat College property and other people’s property with respect.
  • Complete all assignments and examinations on scheduled completion dates.
Serious Misconduct Includes:
  • Sexual assault or a breach of policies or law.
  • Physical assault or violent acts against any student.
  • Verbal abuse or threats.
  • Vandalism of College property.
  • Theft.
  • Use of alcohol or illegal drugs on campus or during College activities (e.g., practicums, field trips, etc.).

If substantiated, serious misconduct may result in immediate suspension, investigation, and possible dismissal. Any illegal activity will be reported to the police. Consequences are determined on a case-by-case basis and may range from academic warnings to suspension or dismissal. Only the Director is empowered to dismiss a student under this policy.

Procedure:

  1. All concerns related to student misconduct should be directed to the Onsite Administrator or Director of Education. Concerns may be raised by staff, students, work experience hosts, or the public.
  2. Within five (5) College days of receiving a complaint, the Director of Education or Senior Educational Administrator will arrange a meeting with the student and/or complainant to discuss concerns.
  3. Following this meeting, further inquiries or investigations will be conducted to determine if the concerns are substantiated.
  4. Any necessary investigations will be completed within five (5) College days of the initial meeting.
  5. The Onsite Administrator or Director of Education will then: a. Determine that the concerns were not substantiated. b. Determine that the concerns were substantiated, in whole or in part, and: i. Issue a warning, outlining consequences for further misconduct. ii. Set a probationary period with conditions. iii. Recommend dismissal from the College.
  6. The Senior Educational Administrator or Director of Education will prepare a written summary of the determination. Copies will be provided to the student, placed in the College complaint file, and added to the student’s file.
  7. If a student receives a warning or probation, both the student and the Senior Educational Administrator or Director of Education will sign the document, and a copy will be provided to the student.
  8. If dismissal is recommended, the student will receive a letter of dismissal and a calculation of refund due or tuition owing.
  9. If a refund is owed, the Onsite Administrator/Director of Education will ensure a cheque is forwarded within 30 days of dismissal.
  10. If the student owes tuition or other fees, the Onsite Administrator/Director of Education will undertake the collection of the amount due.

Responsibility: The Director of International Training & Development, Senior Education Administrator, and Onsite Administrator are responsible for enforcing this policy.
