housing support services

Orane International

At Orane International we are deeply committed to creating a healthy, supportive, and inclusive educational environment for all our students.

We recognize that success in education is closely tied to personal well-being, health and access to proper support—both physical and emotional.

1.  Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being

We understand the challenges students may face both in their personal lives and in academic settings. That’s why we provide access to:

  • Confidential mental health support: Students may access staff trained in Mental Health First Aid for guidance and emotional support.
  • Referral to external services: We connect students with certified mental health professionals, community counselors, and culturally competent care when needed.
  • Stress management resources: Our institution promotes practices like yoga, meditation, and workshops on coping skills to encourage mental wellness.
  • Anti-stigma approach:  We create an environment that supports honest discussions about mental health and works proactively to eliminate stigma.

2. Addiction Prevention, Education, and Support

We are aware that substance use and addiction affect many lives and can impact student well-being.

Our institution offers:

  • Addiction awareness workshops on responsible decision-making and harm reduction.
  • Supportive and confidential environment for students seeking help with substance use concerns.
  • Referral to community addiction counselors and support groups such as AA or NA.
  • Clear policy against substance abuse on campus, while ensuring compassionate support for those struggling.

3. Suicide Prevention

At our institution, we recognize the profound impact suicide can have on individuals and communities. We are dedicated to fostering a safe, supportive environment through the following key initiatives:

  1. Training for Faculty and Staff:  We provide specialized training to help faculty and staff recognize warning signs, understand risk factors, and respond effectively to suicide-related situations.
  2.  Empowering Students with Resources:  Students are given access to clear, supportive information on how to identify mental health concerns — both in themselves and their peers — and where to seek timely help.
  3.  Creating a Culture of Care:  We actively promote a compassionate and inclusive campus culture where students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to reach out for support without judgment.

4.  Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Access

Given the ongoing opioid crisis in British Columbia, our school is actively engaged in overdose prevention efforts:

  • Free Naloxone Kits: Available at the reception/front office and student services desk.
  • Naloxone training: All staff are trained in recognizing signs of opioid overdose and administering Naloxone. Training is offered to students regularly.
  • Emergency response protocol: A clear process is in place to respond quickly and appropriately to suspected overdose events.
  • Harm reduction messaging: We educate students on the risks of unregulated drugs and empower them to make informed decisions.

5. Physical Health

We maintain a campus environment that supports overall health:

  • First aid support, including equipment and trained individuals, is present during all school hours.
  • Clean, hygienic, and accessible facilities, including washrooms and wellness spaces.
  • Safe reporting system for harassment, bullying, or unsafe behavior (Zero Tolerance Complaint Form).
  • Inclusive spaces that provide a supportive environment where students of all identities and backgrounds feel valued and included.

 Accessing Support

Students may reach out anytime for help or support using the following channels:

  • In-person: Speak with your instructor or visit the Student Support Office.
  • Email: dr.ritaorane@gmail.com
  • Phone: +17782408199
  • Community Referrals: We assist students in accessing local health and crisis centers, including:

  • HelpStartshere (Helpline for people who are feeling suicidal British Columbia)

. Review and Continuous Improvement

This policy is reviewed every academic year and whenever provincial health or education regulations are updated.

At Orane International College Canada, we encourage feedback from our community to help us improve our efforts toward a safe and healthy environment.
